NPI Joins the Gastrointestinal Oncology Society Conference 2024 in India
The 1st GIOS Conference 2024, organized by the Gastrointestinal Oncology Society (GIOS) and the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology in Chandigarh, India, was the society’s first annual meeting. It aimed to provide a forum for oncologists, researchers and medical professionals to meet and exchange the latest academic advances and treatment approaches for cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and bile ducts.

From 8 to 10 November 2024, executives and researchers of the National Phenome Institute (NPI), Khon Kaen University, attended the 1st Gastrointestinal Oncology Society Conference 2024 (GIOS Conference 2024), organized by the Gastrointestinal Oncology Society (GIOS) together with the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology in Chandigarh, India. As the society’s first annual meeting, the conference was designed as a forum for oncologists, researchers and medical professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, academic advances and the latest treatment approaches for cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and bile ducts.

The conference featured an intensive academic program, including workshops, expert meetings and in-depth discussions of new techniques and innovations in gastrointestinal oncology, with the aim of advancing research and improving patient care.

On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, Director of the National Phenome Institute, Khon Kaen University, was invited to speak on “Unraveling the Role of the Gut Microbiome in GI Cancers: Implications for Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment.” He presented in-depth insights into the roles and mechanisms of gut microbes associated with gastrointestinal cancers, which may lead to the development of personalized prevention, diagnosis and treatment in the future. The talk attracted strong interest from conference participants.

Other NPI representatives at the conference included Dr. M.L. Manida Suksawat, Deputy Director for Academic Services; Dr. Marisa Attapong; and Theerayut Bubpamala, researcher. They shared experiences and built academic collaborations with international researchers and experts.

The National Phenome Institute, Khon Kaen University, is proud to have taken part in this international conference, another important step in fostering regional and international academic collaboration that will support the sustainable development of research and innovation in phenomics and bioinformatics.
